WAKE UP!

In this chronically online and late-stage capitalism era there is a phenomenon called semantic bleaching. It happened with the word "woke." An AAVE term onced used to describe radically aware and sociopolitically literate individuals is now a pejorative term with connotations of performatism. See "woke-washing" and "woke capitalism." Are you really woke or do you just want people to think that you're woke? The process of semantic bleaching makes words like woke oftentimes feel...silly to say, because they lose their meaning and seem excessively shallow. Jonah and Louise lead meaningless lives, so the pair make some silly decisions next to some silly sound design in this no-dialogue short film shot, directed, and edited by me.
